Do you appear capable and confident while privately feeling as though you are never quite good enough?
Perhaps you criticise yourself more harshly than you would ever criticise another person. Compliments feel difficult to accept, mistakes seem to confirm your worst beliefs about yourself, and your value depends on whether you are succeeding, helping or receiving approval.
I provide online self-esteem coaching for women who want to develop a more stable sense of self-worth, reduce chronic self-criticism and stop measuring their value through other people’s reactions.
My approach combines psychological insight with practical coaching strategies. Together, we identify the beliefs shaping how you see yourself and work on changing the behaviours that continue to reinforce low self-esteem.

Online Self-Esteem Coaching
Self-esteem is the value you place on yourself as a person.
When your self-esteem is relatively stable, you can recognise your strengths without needing to believe that you are perfect. You can make a mistake without seeing yourself as a failure, receive criticism without losing your entire sense of worth and experience rejection without concluding that you are fundamentally unlovable.
When self-esteem is low, your relationship with yourself may feel much more conditional.
You may feel valuable when you are:
- achieving;
- helping other people;
- receiving praise;
- being productive;
- maintaining control;
- meeting other people’s expectations;
- avoiding mistakes;
- making yourself useful.
However, when those external sources of validation disappear, your confidence can quickly collapse.
Online self-esteem coaching helps you understand the internal rules maintaining this cycle and develop a more balanced, compassionate and realistic relationship with yourself.
Do You Feel Like You’re Never Good Enough?
Low self-esteem does not always look like obvious insecurity.
Many women experiencing low self-esteem are intelligent, ambitious and outwardly successful. They may work extremely hard, care deeply about other people and appear confident in social or professional environments.
Internally, however, they may constantly question whether they deserve their success, relationships or opportunities.
Low self-esteem may affect you if you regularly:
- focus on your weaknesses while dismissing your strengths;
- compare yourself unfavourably with other people;
- struggle to accept compliments;
- assume that success happened because of luck;
- feel uncomfortable receiving attention or recognition;
- believe you must prove your worth through achievement;
- tolerate poor treatment because you doubt that you deserve better;
- feel ashamed of making ordinary mistakes;
- depend on reassurance to feel secure;
- speak to yourself with constant criticism;
- avoid opportunities because you expect to fail;
- change yourself to gain approval;
- feel guilty when you prioritise your own needs.
You might understand intellectually that you should be kinder to yourself while finding that the critical voice remains incredibly convincing.
This is because low self-esteem is rarely changed through positive affirmations alone. We need to understand what maintains the negative beliefs and create new experiences that challenge them.
The Difference Between Confidence and Self-Esteem
Confidence and self-esteem are closely connected, but they are not identical.
Confidence often relates to what you believe you can do. You might feel confident giving presentations but lack confidence in relationships. You may trust your professional abilities while doubting your ability to manage disagreement or rejection.
Self-esteem relates more deeply to how you value yourself.
When self-esteem is conditional, your worth may rise when you succeed and collapse when something goes wrong. A mistake does not simply feel disappointing—it feels like evidence that you are inadequate.
This means someone can appear confident while still struggling with low self-esteem.
Confidence coaching may focus on helping you take action and feel more capable in particular situations. Self-esteem coaching examines the beliefs determining whether you feel worthy, acceptable and deserving of respect in the first place.
If your main difficulty is taking action, speaking up or handling particular situations more confidently, explore my confidence coaching for people-pleasers service.
How Low Self-Esteem Affects Your Life
Low self-esteem can quietly shape your choices, relationships and expectations.
Relationships
You may accept one-sided relationships, avoid expressing your needs or believe you must earn love by being endlessly understanding and accommodating.
You might remain in situations that hurt you because part of you doubts that you deserve more.
Work and achievement
You may overwork, struggle to delegate or hold yourself to standards you would never expect from anybody else.
Success provides temporary relief, but it rarely creates lasting security. As soon as you achieve one goal, your mind identifies another way you are falling behind.
Decisions
When you do not trust your own judgement, even ordinary decisions can become exhausting.
You may repeatedly ask other people what they think, research every possible outcome or delay taking action because you are afraid of getting it wrong.
Boundaries
Setting a boundary can feel selfish when you have learned to measure your value through helpfulness and availability.
You may know that a boundary is reasonable while still feeling intense guilt after communicating it.
Opportunities
Low self-esteem may cause you to reject yourself before somebody else has the chance.
You might avoid applying for opportunities, expressing interest, sharing your work or asking for what you want because you assume you will not be chosen.
How Self-Esteem Coaching Can Help
Self-esteem coaching creates a structured space to examine how you learned to evaluate yourself and what continues to reinforce those beliefs.
We may identify deeply held assumptions such as:
- “I am not good enough.”
- “I need to prove my worth.”
- “If I make a mistake, people will see that I am inadequate.”
- “My needs are a burden.”
- “Other people are more important than me.”
- “I am only valuable when I am useful.”
- “I need approval to know that I am doing the right thing.”
- “If someone rejects me, it means there is something wrong with me.”
We then look at the behaviours that keep these beliefs alive.
For example, if you believe you are inadequate, you may avoid challenges. Avoidance prevents you from discovering what you are capable of, so the original belief remains untested.
Alternatively, you may overcompensate by working excessively and demanding perfection from yourself. When you succeed, you credit the effort rather than your ability. When you struggle, you treat it as evidence that you were never good enough.
Coaching helps you interrupt these cycles through reflection, practical strategies and new behavioural experiences.
The goal is not to convince yourself that you are better than everybody else. It is to reach a place where your basic worth does not disappear every time you struggle, make a mistake or encounter disapproval.
What We Work on Together
Your coaching will be personalised around your experiences, goals and circumstances. Areas we may work on include:
Identifying your critical inner voice
We explore the language you use towards yourself, the situations that activate self-criticism and the standards against which you measure your worth.
Understanding conditional self-worth
We identify whether your value has become dependent on achievement, appearance, productivity, relationships, helpfulness or approval.
Challenging negative self-beliefs
We examine the evidence supporting your beliefs and the important experiences, qualities and perspectives that your current self-image excludes.
Developing self-compassion
Self-compassion is not avoiding responsibility or pretending that everything you do is perfect. It means responding to difficulty without turning it into an attack on your identity.
Accepting compliments and recognition
We work on noticing when you dismiss positive feedback, minimise your achievements or assume that other people do not genuinely mean what they say.
Setting realistic standards
You learn to recognise perfectionistic expectations and distinguish healthy ambition from standards that make it impossible to feel adequate.
Making decisions with greater self-trust
We practise making choices without needing complete certainty or universal approval.
Developing healthier boundaries
You learn to communicate what you can and cannot offer without treating your needs as less legitimate than everybody else’s.
Taking meaningful action
We identify opportunities you may have avoided because of self-doubt and develop realistic steps towards engaging with them.
Why People-Pleasing and Self-Worth Are Connected
People-pleasing frequently develops when self-worth becomes dependent on how other people respond to you.
You may feel temporarily secure when somebody is happy with you. When they are disappointed, distant or critical, you may experience a sharp drop in your sense of worth.
This can create a cycle:
- You worry about rejection or disapproval.
- You ignore your needs to keep somebody happy.
- You receive temporary reassurance.
- You become exhausted or resentful.
- You criticise yourself for feeling resentful.
- You try even harder to be helpful and agreeable.
Over time, the cycle reinforces the idea that relationships are safe only when you make yourself easy, useful and undemanding.
Building self-esteem allows you to remain connected to your own value even when somebody else has a different opinion, sets a limit, misunderstands you or feels disappointed.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is online self-esteem coaching?
Online self-esteem coaching is individual support designed to help you understand and change the thoughts, beliefs and behaviours affecting your sense of worth.
Sessions take place through secure video calls and may include reflection, practical exercises and behavioural experiments between appointments.
Can coaching genuinely improve self-esteem?
Coaching can help you identify the patterns maintaining low self-esteem and develop new ways of relating to yourself.
Progress usually comes from repeatedly practising different responses rather than simply trying to think positively. Outcomes and timescales vary between individuals, and no particular result can be guaranteed.
How is self-esteem different from confidence?
Confidence is generally connected with how capable you feel in a particular situation. Self-esteem is your broader sense of personal worth.
You can be highly confident in your work while privately believing that you are inadequate, unlovable or valuable only when you are successful.
Is self-esteem coaching the same as therapy?
No. Coaching generally focuses on present-day goals, practical change, accountability and skill development.
Therapy may be more appropriate where low self-esteem is connected with significant mental health symptoms, trauma, risk or difficulties requiring clinical assessment and treatment.
Because my professional background includes both therapy and coaching, we can discuss which approach appears more suitable during the initial consultation.
Is this service only for women?
This page is written for women because many of my clients experience self-esteem difficulties through gendered expectations involving appearance, achievement, relationships, caregiving and emotional labour.
If you do not identify as a woman but relate to the difficulties described, you are still welcome to contact me to discuss whether my approach may be appropriate.
How frequently will we meet?
Most clients begin with weekly sessions to create consistency and momentum. Depending on your goals and progress, sessions may later move to a fortnightly schedule.
How long does self-esteem coaching take?
The timeframe varies according to your goals, circumstances and how long the relevant patterns have been present.
Some clients want to address a specific issue, while others want to work on several connected areas. We will review progress regularly rather than assuming that one fixed timeframe suits everybody.
What happens between appointments?
We may agree on an exercise or behavioural experiment to complete between sessions.
This could include recording your inner critic, accepting a compliment without dismissing it, making a decision independently, setting a boundary or taking a small step towards an opportunity you have avoided.
What happens during the free consultation?
The free 20-minute consultation allows us to discuss what you are experiencing, what you want to change and whether coaching or therapy with me appears appropriate.
You can also ask questions about my approach, session frequency, availability and fees. There is no obligation to continue.
